Go find your favourite blanket. You know, the one you would search for 'cause it was just right even though you had 4 others in your hand. Make it that big.

For many years I always made a gift blanket to fit the size of the top of a crib mattress. Now I make them somewhat smaller especially for a newborn gift.
For a square probably about 35".
